Our Mission Story
How our parish community came to be in Fairfield, Connecticut
The Beginning
Our Lady Of Assumption Syro Malabar Catholic Mission was established to serve the growing Syro Malabar Catholic community in Connecticut. What began as a small gathering of faithful families seeking to preserve their ancient liturgical heritage has grown into a vibrant parish community rooted in prayer, tradition, and fellowship.
We are a community of Syro Malabar Catholics — one of the Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with the Holy See. Our church traces its origins to the apostolic mission of Saint Thomas the Apostle, who brought the Christian faith to India in 52 AD, establishing one of the oldest Christian communities in the world.

Mission Founded
The mission was established to serve the Syro Malabar Catholic families of Connecticut, beginning with small home gatherings and Sunday celebrations.

First Holy Qurbana
The first formal celebration of the Holy Qurbana was held, marking the official beginning of our liturgical life as a mission parish.

The Religious Education program was launched to nurture the faith of our children and youth in the Syro Malabar tradition.

Current Home — Fairfield, CT
The mission found its current home at 838 Kings Hwy E, Fairfield, CT, where our parish family gathers every Sunday for Holy Mass.

✝ Apostolic Origins
The Syro Malabar Church traces its origins to the missionary work of Saint Thomas the Apostle, who arrived on the Malabar coast of India in 52 AD. This makes us one of the oldest Christian communities in the world.
✝ The Holy Qurbana
Our liturgy — the Holy Qurbana — is celebrated in the ancient Chaldean rite, now largely in Malayalam. It is a deeply spiritual and communal act of worship connecting us to the earliest Christian traditions.
✝ Full Communion with Rome
The Syro Malabar Catholic Church is one of the Eastern Catholic Churches in full communion with the Holy See, maintaining its unique liturgical identity while professing the same faith as the Roman Catholic Church.
